Environment Control and Protection

Dear business partners,

První brněnská strojírna Velká Bíteš, a.s., one of the biggest firms in our region, manufactures a wide range of products for both civil and military aviation, back-pressure steam and condensing turbines, precise castings for power equipment, turbochargers and special equipment, machine parts completing engineering products, and special pattern equipment and tools. The strategy of the company's development is above all focused on the products and services, which, by their quality, reliability, performance and environmental friendliness, meet the specified requirements of our customers.

One of the main objectives of the company is to manufacture products which represent a minimal burden to the environment, to create conditions for continual improvement, pollution prevention, and to maintain the environmental management system in accordance with legal regulations and other requirements set forth by decisions, contracts etc. The principles of the company's strategy in the area of environment protection have been formulated in the "Quality and Environmental Policy" which is the highest document binding on all employees of the company and persons and organisations working in the company's premises. By announcement of the Policy, the company has expressed its commitment to the process of continual improvement and pollution prevention as well as to the fulfilment of relevant requirements of legal regulations and other requirements applicable to the company, effective utilisation of natural resources, protection of water, soil, air, and occupational health and safety. The process of waste and chemical handling as well as the measures in case of accident or emergency are an integral part of the Policy.

To fulfil this commitment, PBS Velká Bíteš, a.s. has introduced an environmental management system according to ČSN EN ISO 14001:2005, which is the key tool for the continual improvement of processes by preventing and eliminating adverse impacts arising from the activities of our company on the environment.

The company has prepared and approved an implementation program in the area of protection of water, air, waste management and other environmental components. To implement the environmental policy the company undertakes to:

• continually improve the environmental management system and to integrate the environment protection in all business activities,
• enforce the environmental regulations requirements with its suppliers,
• prefer prevention over follow-up measures,
• reduce the sources of risks, and prevent accidental or emergency states,
• observe valid legal regulations and other requirements relating to the company,
• implement the environmental management system in all activities,
• motivate, educate and hold its employees responsible for environmental policy exertion,
• strictly follow emission limits stated by legal regulations,
• inform the public, interested parties, all persons and organisations working with the company of the environmental policy and its implementation,
• handle the waste and chemicals in accordance with legal regulations and other requirements.

In accordance with the requirements of ČSN EN ISO 14001:2005, the established environmental management system, individual processes and activities are reviewed at stated intervals in order to correct possible technical or organisational deviations to ensure continual suitability, adequacy and effectiveness of the environment control, to define opportunities for improvement, needs of changes in the environmental management or environmental policy, targets and objectives. Our present and future processes and activities are and will be planned, assessed and supervised from the environmental aspects and targets point of view.

We implement and will implement actions aimed at continual reduction of the environmental burden by our operations. Our business activity is based on professional knowledge and long experience of our personnel who implement the principles of economical approach to the environment on our products from their design through procurement, production to their dispatch to the customer. We undertake to monitor and control the pollution sources which in the meantime cannot be cancelled in order to minimise emissions to the values under the threshold limits. We discharge industrial water cleaned and treated under the limits stated by law. We try to reduce and sort wastes, hand them over for further utilisation, or, if it is not possible, liquidate them in accordance with legal regulations. We minimise the substances which, according to relevant legal regulations, are dangerous, and replace them by environmentally friendly substances and materials. In the company area we maintain grass plots and tree species to create pleasant environment for our employees and to increase the image of our firm. Last but not least we also try to persuade our suppliers of implementation of the environmental management principles. We collaborate with state authorities in fulfilling the notification, reporting and approval duties as set forth by legal regulations and other requirements.

Environment control and protection is a global task. První brněnská strojírna Velká Bíteš, a.s. is one of those companies who voluntarily implement the environmental management systems, and in January 2006 its system will be certified by the international certification body Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance accredited in the Czech Republic.
